As a teacher of freshman classes at UT Austin, and also as someone who has used membership databases extensively in my former professional life, I understand that growing our DSA chapter requires both friendly human outreach and ruthless digital efficiency. Connecting with new and potential members requires a mix of congenial persuasion, patient instruction, and even some strategic salesmanship. I am so excited and proud of our organization, and I hope to have the chance to work tirelessly to bring others in by working with our chapter and its Leadership Committee on methods and tactics for outreach. As membership coordinator, I plan to develop an effective “funnel” for reaching out with repeated, engaged communication to turn general inquiries into dues paying members. I believe we can take the best practices from the otherwise morally bankrupt world of contemporary marketing and put them to work for socialism!
