Austin Democratic Socialists of America

FAQs

Have questions? We’re here to help.

Q: Is DSA a political party?

A: Nope! We are a socialist political and activist organization.

Q: What are membership dues?

A: Our introductory rate is $45, our student and youth rate is $20 and our low income rate is $27.

Q: Do I need to know a bunch of socialist theory and history to join?

A: Not at all! Our chapter is a do-acracy, meaning we are action oriented. If you’d like to learn more theory and history, we’ve got you covered though. There is a Reading Group every fourth Thursday 7pm at Book People and an organizing school we encourage new members to attend.

Q: What are meetings like?

A: Every meeting we have a guest speaker to educate our chapter about specific issues, such as gentrification or the challenges of undocumented people in Texas. To respect the time of busy folks and working families meetings are once a month and 90 minutes long. Kids are welcome!

Q: Austin is a long drive for me and I can’t attend meetings, how can I still participate?

A: Glad you asked. Austin DSA has branches in Williamson County and Waco. Further east, there is a chapter in Brazos Valley. For more information, please contact us.

Q: I’d like to give you more money, how do I do that?

A: As our membership grows, our financial needs do too. We have regular fundraisers and take collections at meetings, but you can also make direct donations. Please contact us for more information.
